Terms of Service
Effective date: February 22, 2026
By downloading, installing, or using RunOrPay ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the App.
1. Service Description
RunOrPay is a fitness accountability app. You set a weekly running commitment (number of runs, minimum distance, minimum duration) and a monetary penalty. If you do not meet your goal by the end of the week (Sunday midnight), the penalty amount becomes due.
2. Eligibility
- You must be at least 17 years of age.
- You must have a valid payment method to use the payment features of the App.
- By using the App, you represent that you are legally able to enter into binding agreements.
3. Commitment & Penalties
- When you create a commitment, you agree to a self-imposed penalty for missed weeks.
- Penalty amounts are set entirely by you during onboarding or in Settings.
- Penalties are processed through Stripe and are non-refundable once the payment is completed, except for escrow holds where the user met their goal (see Section 4).
- The App is a self-motivation tool. You are responsible for setting a penalty amount that is appropriate for your personal financial situation.
4. Payment Destinations
You choose where your penalty goes:
- Charity: Penalty is donated to one of the listed charitable organizations. A 10% service fee is applied.
- Friend: Penalty is sent to a person you designate. A 10% service fee is applied.
- Escrow: Penalty is held in escrow. If you meet your next week's goal, the net amount (after 20% service fee) is refunded. If you miss again, the funds are retained.
5. Service Fees
- Charity and Friend destinations: 10% service fee on each penalty payment.
- Escrow destination: 20% service fee on each penalty payment.
- Service fees cover payment processing costs and App maintenance.
6. Quitting Your Commitment
- You may quit your commitment at any time through the Settings screen.
- After a 3-week waiting period, you can quit for free and all local data will be reset.
- You may quit immediately by paying a one-time exit fee (currently set in the App).
- Any outstanding debt must be paid before quitting.
7. Health & Safety Disclaimer
- RunOrPay is not a medical device or health advisor. Consult a physician before starting any exercise program.
- The App does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
