Privacy Policy

RunOrPay ("we", "us", or "the App") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data the App collects, why it is collected, and how it is handled.

1. Data We Collect

Health & Fitness Data

• Apple HealthKit: With your permission, the App reads running workouts (distance, duration, heart rate, calories) from Apple Health to count toward your weekly goal. The App also writes workouts you track in-app back to Apple Health.
• Location Data: When you use the built-in run tracker, the App accesses your location to map your route and calculate distance. Location is accessed in the foreground while tracking and in the background so your run continues when the screen is locked. Location data is stored only on your device.

Payment Data

• Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. We never see, store, or transmit your full credit card number. A Stripe Customer ID is stored locally in your device's Keychain so you can reuse saved payment methods.

Device-Local Data

• Your commitment settings, run history, statistics, and notification preferences are stored on-device using UserDefaults and optionally backed up to your personal iCloud account via CloudKit.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect your name, email address, or any personal identifiers.
• We do not create user accounts.
• We do not use analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking SDKs.
• We do not sell, share, or transmit your Health or location data to any third party.
• HealthKit data is never used for advertising or marketing purposes, in compliance with Apple's HealthKit guidelines.

3. How We Use Your Data

• HealthKit data is used solely to determine whether you met your weekly running goal.
• Location data is used solely to track and display your running route during an active workout.
• Payment data is used solely to process penalty payments, charity donations, or escrow holds when you miss your running goal.

4. Data Storage & Security

• All personal data is stored on your device or in your personal iCloud account. We do not operate servers that store user data.
• Stripe Customer IDs are stored in the iOS Keychain with the protection level whenUnlockedThisDeviceOnly.
• iCloud backups use Apple's end-to-end encryption when Advanced Data Protection is enabled.
• Cloud Functions used for payment processing do not log or store personal data beyond what Stripe requires for transaction records.

5. Third-Party Services

• Stripe: Payment processing. Subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy.
• Apple HealthKit: Health data access. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
• Apple iCloud (CloudKit): Optional data backup to your personal iCloud account.

6. Children's Privacy

RunOrPay is not intended for children under the age of 17. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

7. Data Deletion

You can delete all App data at any time by using the "Quit Commitment" feature in Settings, which resets all local data. Uninstalling the App removes all on-device data. To delete iCloud backup data, go to Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Manage Storage on your device. To request deletion of your Stripe customer record, contact us at the email below.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by the "Effective date" at the top of this page.
